Is Voting Compulsory in South Australia?

Yes. Voting is compulsory for all enrolled voters in South Australia. If you’re enrolled and don’t vote, you may receive a fine. If you’re unsure about your enrolment status, it’s worth checking before the election period begins.

The AEC manages the electoral roll and can help you enrol or update your details. Updates to your enrolment are required before the 2026 South Australian state election close of rolls cut off at 5pm ACDT on Friday 27 February 2026.
